Ghana's Black Stars finished the year as Africa's fifth best side for the year 2015 following yesterday's release of the FIFA World Rankings.

With the ranking being the last before the year ends the Black Stars will start the new year as Africa's fifth best rated side going into the Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana suffered a drop of just two places in the global rankings to find themselves 35th but maintained their fifth-place standings in Africa.

The Black Stars unimpressive showing at the World Cup and a difficult Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign also affected their placing on the ranking.

Algeria topped Africa with their neighbours Tunisia placing second while Ivory Coast took the third position.

The resurgent Senegal side placed fourth before Ghana.

South Africa had surged up the table last month following their successful 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, but have since slipped from 51st in the world, while they also dropped one spot in Africa, from 11th to 12th.

Zambia, meanwhile, have made a huge jump up the standings, climbing 10 places to sit 78th in the world, while they are now just inside the top 10 on the continent.

Nigeria have continued their plummet down the table and have dropped another five places to sit 42nd on the globe, while they dropped to ninth in the CAF rankings.

Kenya have also gone in the wrong direction and slipped to 116h in the world, while Zimbabwe fell out of the top 100 as a nine-place drop leaves them in 101st.

FIFA CAF Top-10 Rankings:
1. Algeria
2. Tunisia
3. Ivory Coast
4. Senegal
5. Ghana
6. Guinea
7. Cape Verde Islands
8. Cameroon
9. Nigeria
10. Zambia.
