Confederation Cup CAF President mourns the Lubumbashi trio
NOV 27, 2014 LISTEN

The president of Confederation of African Football, Issa Hayatou has mourned the three fans that lost their lives at Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of Congo during a league match on Sunday 23 November.

Three fans died in the match between St.Eloi Lupopo and Sangabalende after they were shot by the police who were trying to contain violent fans in the stadium who had resorted to hooliganism in protest to what they viewed as biased officiating.

Unfortunate incident
In a statement of CAF's website, Hayatou mourned the trio saying football should bring people together and not result to loss of lives.

-Football must remain a moment of good association, fellowship, sharing, celebration and joy; values that are legendary with the African people's culture of hospitality and solidarity. So it is always saddening and with dismay that we have to vehemently disapprove of such events, he said.
