Michael Essien: AC Milan star rues missed chances against Inter in derby

Ghana ace Michael Essien is encouraged by Milan's performance in the derby with Inter and rues the Rossoneri's missed opportunity to win the game.

Both sides spurned goalscoring chances during Sunday's League derby, which ultimately ended 1-1.

“It was a tough match but we played a good game,” Essien has commented today to Milan Channel ahead of training.

“We also had the chance to win, but unfortunately we did not succeed. At San Siro it was a great atmosphere.

“There were some good moves from the team, I was very happy for the goal Menez scored.

“El Shaarawy had a great chance to win the derby for us, but now we must only think of the next match.”

That is against Udinese and could see Riccardo Montolivo step up his recovery after several months out with a broken leg.

“Every match is difficult. We have to try to win and bring home the three points.

“Montolivo's return is very important for us, he is our captain and we are pleased for his return to the field.”
