Springboks Solid defense: Heyneker Meyer praises Springboks defence
NOV 23, 2014 LISTEN

The Springboks crossed for three tries in Padova, setting up their victory in the second half after holding a narrow 8-6 lead at the main break.

Meyer was most pleased by his side's ability to keep Italy point-less in the second half.

"I'm very happy with the result and fact that we didn't concede any tries and no points in the second half," he said.

"I'll always prefer a try count of 3-0 instead of 5-3."

Meyer paid tribute to a "very passionate Italian side", who hung in the contest until Cobus Reinach's try in the 58th minute.

Springboks captain Jean De Villiers said there were still areas for his side to improve on ahead of their year-ending Test against Wales.

"We put in a big performance against a fired up team and while there is still room for improvement, I thought we played some great rugby," he said.

"We have one week left in our season and everyone involved knows the Test against Wales in Cardiff next weekend will be a massive challenge " we'll be going all out to finish 2014 on a high."
