Toronto scored three goals in the final period as they beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-1 at the Air Canada Center.

The Maple Leafs bounced back from a 9-2 humiliation at the hands of the Nashville Predators with a 5-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday.

And the Maple Leafs continued their winning ways a day later in Toronto thanks to a dominant third period led by Tyler Bozak's two goals.

The Maple Leafs took a 1-0 lead into the first change thanks to Leo Komarov, who picked up a loose puck and sent his shot past Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard.

Howard had 24 saves after almost 12 minutes.
Detroit hit back in the second period, Tomas Tatar levelling the scores with less than 10 minutes remaining for his ninth goal of the season.

The Maple Leafs stepped it up a gear in the third stanza, with Bozak lifting the puck over Howard 3:44 into the period.

Peter Holland made it 3-1 with under 4:22 left on the clock after dispossessing Gustav Nyquist and snapping a wrist shot into the net.

Bozak put the result beyond doubt two minutes later via an empty-net goal.

The Maple Leafs (11-8-2) are seventh in the Eastern Conference with 24 points, a point adrift of the Red Wings (10-5-5).

Chicago captain Jonathan Toews scored two goals as the Blackhawks routed the Oilers 7-1 on the road in Edmonton.

Toews scored twice in the opening period for the Blackhawks, who netted six unanswered goals before the Oilers finally got on the board 8:04 into the third.

The Blackhawks (12-7-1), who have won three games in a row, have collected 26 points to sit seventh in the Western Conference.

As for the Oilers (6-13-2) - winless in six " they are bottom in the West with just 14 points.

In other results, the New York Islanders downed the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1.

The win saw the Islanders (14-6-0) move level with the Penguins (13-4-2) atop the Eastern Conference's Metropolitan division.

Reigning champions the Los Angeles Kings were beaten 5-4 by the Dallas Stars, the Montreal Canadiens shutout the Boston Bruins for a 2-0 win and the Philadelphia Flyers accounted for the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-2.

The Nashville Predators were 3-2 winners over the Florida Panthers after a shoot-out and the Calgary Flames edged the New Jersey Devils 5-4.

A two-goal first period helped the St Louis Blues to a 3-2 win against the Ottawa Senators, the Tampa Bay Lightning overcame the Minnesota Wild 2-1, while the Buffalo Sabres defeated the Washington Capitals by the same scoreline.

Defenseman Zach Redmond score with 1:35 remaining in regulation as the Colorado Avalanche rallied to beat the Carolina Hurricanes 4-3 and the Arizona Coyotes saw off the San Jose Sharks 4-3 in a shoot-out.
