The Spaniard has had a remarkable two days in Dubai, climbing 39 places since the opening round to share the lead on 14-under-par going into the final day.

Seven birdies on Saturday saw him card a faultless 65 and close the gap on Stenson, the 30-year-old moving into contention to lift the final title of the European Tour season.

Cabrera-Bello admitted he had been struggling on the front nine, but was thankful for an improvement in his short game that helped him turn things around.

"It's been a very special round for me today, I am really pleased with the score and a good finish," he told the European Tour's official website.

"It's been a little crazy. I haven't felt I've played perfect at all - I've had to work really hard, especially at the beginning [the front nine].

"I managed to hang in there and ended up shooting three under on the front nine when I could have easily shot two or three over, which was very good.

"My short game and putting has been unbelievable, probably the best day of my life for short game, and that"s what helped me stay in there on the front nine.

"I felt I did play better on the back nine. I was playing more aggressive, going for it, hitting good shots and giving myself a lot of chances and I made some of them."

Stenson maintained his consistent performance with a four-under 68, with the leading pair now three shots clear of Justin Rose in third.
