Ciganda and Wie both carded rounds of 67 on day two at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort, the former joining first-round leader Julieta Granada on seven under.

Morgan Pressel went one better with a 66 that left her a solitary shot off the pace, but Wie's surge to five under was perhaps more significant given the latter remains in contention for a $1million bonus on offer to the winner of the Race to the CME Globe title.

Stacy Lewis remains in pole position to claim that prize, despite slipping back to one under with a 74 on Friday, but Wie significantly enhanced her own prospects by responding to an opening bogey with four birdies and an eagle at the par-four seventh.

"You never like to bogey a par five [the first], but I think it kind of fuelled me," said Wie in her post-round interview.

"I made a birdie on three and the hole-out on seven was a lot of fun as well.

"Sometimes I play well when I bogey the first hole, just because I am very irritated!"

Ciganda enjoyed a faultless second round, picking up birdies at the fifth, sixth, ninth, 10th and 13th holes to catch Granada, who followed her opening 66 with a 71.

The Paraguayan mixed three birdies with three bogeys, despite hitting every fairway on Friday.

Pressel, meanwhile, picked up three shots on each nine to match the score Granada posted on day one.
