Nigeria Slumber, Ghana Savour in AFCON 2015 Qualification Birth

The Super Eagles of Nigeria failed to secure a qualification right to the 2015 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament to be staged in Equatorial Guinea from January 17 to February 8.

The defending champions were succumbed to a 2-2 drawn game on Wednesday in Uyo by the Bafana Bafana of South Africa who finished first in Group A with 13 points.

Tokelo Rantie scored in either half to give coach Mashaba's team the lead, but Sone Aluko scored in the 68th and in time added on to put Stephen Keshie's side on level, but it was too little to book a place in Equatorial Guinea for Nigeria who finished third in their group.

In Group E, goals from Abdul Majeed Waris, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu and Mubarak Wakaso's stunner ensured that the Black Stars finished first with 11 points.

After a series of attacks on Togo, Abdul Majeed Waris gave Ghana the lead in the 24th minute from a close range.

The Tamale Sports Stadium was raised to the roof in the 28th minute when Celtic's combative midfielder Mubarak Wakaso dunked in a 35 metre yard thunderbolt to increase the tally for Ghana.

Back from the recess, Floyd Ayitey pulled one back for the Hawks in the 51st minute but Captain of the Black Stars Emmanuel Agyemang Badu increased the tally in the 68th minute.
