Sports News David Blatt: LeBron James 'not responsible for the whole team'
NOV 20, 2014 LISTEN

The Cavs went down 92-90 to reigning NBA champions the San Antonio Spurs in a thriller at Quicken Loans Arena on Wednesday.

James, who finished with 15 points, nine assists and six rebounds, turned over possession with just under two seconds remaining as he surged towards a game-tying score.

Blatt said he was happy with James, but he told his team they all needed to step up to get their season going.

"I'm glad LeBron is on our side every day. Every day," he said.

"He played hard and he was leading and he was engaged, and I don't care what the numbers say, OK? That's my answer to the first part of the question.

"The second part, obviously because of the things he does and the things he can do, his statistical impact is going to have an impact on the game, but what I would say to that is, we all have to step up, not just one guy.

"One guy is not responsible for the whole team."
Blatt said his team's ability to challenge fellow championship contenders the Spurs (7-4) was a positive.

"I don't think only one game gives you a true measure of anything at this stage," he said.

"But you're playing one of the top teams in the last decade and a half and obviously, if you show the ability to play with them and possibly win the game - that's a good sign. That's the positive of the night.

"At the end of the day you've got to win the game and you've got to do little things to win the game and if that's a measure, then tonight we didn't do that."
