The Spurs were beaten by the rallying Phoenix Suns 94-89 in NBA action on Friday.

San Antonio opened up a commanding 13-point lead at the first change but they were outscored in the following three periods.

The Suns finally hit the front with less than four minutes to play - sparked by a 10-0 run - as the Phoenix franchise made it back-to-back wins and condemned the Spurs to their first loss of the season.

Phoenix guard Isaiah Thomas led the way with a game-high 23 points from the bench.

Markieff Morris scored a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Eric Bledsoe had 12 points and nine boards.

Goran Dragic, Alex Len and Gerald Green all contributed 10 points for the Suns.

Tony Parker was the pick of the Spurs players, posting a team-high 19 points, while veteran team-mate Tim Duncan sunk 16 points of his own.

It was second time lucky for James and the Cavaliers after they regrouped from their disappointing loss to the New York Knicks with victory over the Chicago Bulls.

Well below par in his debut for the Cavaliers on Thursday, James brushed off that poor display by scoring 36 points, eight rebounds and four assists as Cleveland edged Chicago 114-108 in overtime.

Cleveland, who blew a nine-point lead to start the final quarter, came from five points down to force overtime, where they outscored the Bulls by six to win for the first time this season.

"It was an opportunity to go out and redeem ourselves and I was happy with the outcome," James said.

Kyrie Irving had 23 points for the Cavaliers, while Kevin Love (16 points and 16 rebounds) and Tristan Thompson (16 points and 13 rebounds) both produced double-doubles.

Bulls star Derrick Rose, who had 20 points, suffered an ankle injury in the overtime defeat.

In other results, Blake Griffin sunk 39 points as the Los Angeles Clippers defeated city rivals the Los Angeles Lakers 118-111.

The Memphis Grizzlies downed the Indiana Pacers 97-89, the Sacramento Kings accounted for the Portland Trail Blazers 103-94 and the Milwaukee Bucks saw off the Philadelphia 76ers 93-81.
