The Ghana Golfers Association (GGA) have revealed delight at the upcoming 2nd Ghana Golf Awards and are renewing commitment to the development and promotion of the sport in this country.
Primeval Media return with the awards on December 22 following the success of last year's maiden event, this time with much more awards including a new one reserved for the best golf reporting journalist.
"Golf is now an Olympic sport and the GGA have it as a duty to unearth talents in readiness for Rio 2016," Gyimah-Kwakye, General Secretary of GGA said.
"We are excited to be part of this programme and this year, more awards will be given than last year," added Mike Aggrey, Vice President of GGA.
"Golf is not for only the rich in society, it's for all level of income earners, but unfortunately, that is the notion out there because of the caliber of people who participate in the sport from time to time. I will like to use this opportunity to invite all those who are willing to play golf to come and learn the sport," Mr. Aggrey said.
The launch of the 2014 Ghana Golf Awards was formally conducted by National Sports Authority boss, Joe Kpenge who affirmed calls for more resources to be diverted to support teh so-called lesser known sports to rival football.
'We are all guilty to the fact that football has been made the number one sport in Ghana and frankly there is nothing wrong with that," Mr. Kpenge said.
"But I believe that it is about time we gave some level of importance to the so called 'lesser known sports' which includes golf, because there are some to earn in those areas,' the NSA Director-General affirmed.
