Taxi Driver Beaten Up For Demanding Receipt After Paying Road Toll
29.10.2014 LISTEN

A Taxi Driver operating in the Kasoa Taxi Rank, (Name Witheld) had a real taste of hell when he insisted on taking his receipt after paying road tolls in the municipality.

This spectacle was recorded at the Kasoa taxi rank located on the Nyanyano road opposite Kasoa ECG office when a misunderstanding between a taxi driver of the station and the toll collector over the collection of tolls without proper documentation where the Driver felt was wrong.

Twenty pesewas are collected from the Drivers per every trip without any receipt issued for proper accountability. These are some of the concerns raised by the Driver that attracted the wrath of the collector.

He then went ahead to beat up the driver and threatened to send him to the police station to be locked up.

It took some onlookers and passersby more than ten minutes pleading with the station collector to leave the poor driver alone, but he refused until people threatened to take photos of his action and expose him.

The questions we are asking here are:

(1) who authorized the collection of this toll?

(2) Why are there no receipts issued for transparency and accountability sake?

(3) Is Awutu Senya Municipal Assembly Aware of these tolls?
