The MLB's championship-deciding series returned to Kansas City on Tuesday with the Giants leading 3-2 after consecutive wins in San Francisco.

But at Kauffman Stadium, the Royals blew the Giants away early to set up their seventh win from eight home games in the MLB play-offs.

San Francisco starting pitcher Jake Peavy gave up six hits and five runs in 1.1 innings on the mound, while Yusmeiro Petit claimed the last two outs of the second inning having conceded three hits and two runs, as the Royals thrived at home.

Lorenzo Cain and Eric Hosmer both scored two team-mates in the Royals' second at-bat, while Mike Moustakas, Nori Aoki and Billy Butler also producing scoring hits for the hosts.

Cain scored Omar Infante in the third inning as well, while the latter would slide into home plate in the fifth thanks to Alcides Escobar's double to left field, before Moustakas hit a home run in the seventh to complete the rout.

Kansas City starter Yordano Ventura completed seven innings on the mound, conceding just three hits, before Jason Frasor and Tim Collins pitched an inning each to wrap up the Royals' victory.

The Royals will host game seven on Wednesday as they look to claim just their second World Series win in their history, while the Giants are looking for a third in five years.

San Francisco have been crowned MLB champions seven times, and either side can become just the sixth team to win the World Series as a wildcard if they prevail in game seven.
