The Proteas sealed an ODI series win with a 72-run victory in game two, although the tourists' celebrations were put on hold as New Zealand toiled away after slumping to 95-7 at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.

Luke Ronchi's knock of 79 from 83 deliveries ensured the Blacks Caps were bowled out for a respectable total of 210 in the 47th over as part-time bowler De Villiers struck with figures of 2-28.

"It was a bit frustrating at the end, we lost Immi [Imran Tahir] so I had to make up the overs too," said De Villiers.

"I've been bowling a little bit, discussing the options, if I can land it, it will be handy in certain game. I won't bowl in all the games."

De Villiers added: "We will look to win the final game and take that into the Australian tour."

Earlier in the day, Hashim Amla led South Africa to 282-9.

Amla hit 119 off 135 balls for his 16th ODI century, which included 15 boundaries.

"It felt good, it was difficult early on. The little things went our way and we managed to hang in there quite a while," said Amla.

"The wicket was doing a bit and the guys were bowling well so it did not allow us to go hard up front but we were able to push on in the middle."

The third and final ODI is at Hamilton on Monday.
