Ahead of the penultimate rally of the 2014 campaign in Spain this weekend, Volkswagen announced on Thursday that their trio of drivers will remain with the team next year, with current championship leader Ogier having been previously linked with the likes of Hyundai.

Ogier, Latvala and Mikkelsen are first, second and third respectively in the title standings and team principal Jost Capito is thrilled to end speculation over their futures.

"We currently have the three best rally drivers in the world on our books," said team boss Jost Capito.

"Continuity is an important factor in any success in motorsport, and I am delighted to have been able to extend our cooperation with Sebastien Ogier, Jari-Matti Latvala and Andreas Mikkelsen.

"Together with their co-drivers, all three are an essential part of Volkswagen's overwhelming success in the World Rally Championship, and we are sure that we will enjoy much more success in the coming years with this team."

Ogier needs to score just one more point than Volkswagen team-mate Latvala to retain the title he won for the first time in 2013.

And the Frenchman insists leaving Volkswagen - who he joined from Citroen in 2012 - was never an option.

He said: "Renewing the contract with Volkswagen is a completely logical step.

"The best team with the best car - there was no reason for me and [co-driver] Julien [Ingrassia] to want anything but what is far and away the best opportunity to battle for wins and world championship titles."
