Ghanaian striker Mohammed Anas continued his impressive scoring form when hitting the target for South African side Maritzburg United as they ended SuperSport United's winning run in the Absa Premiership with a convincing 4-1 victory on Wednesday evening.

ALl three Ghanaians at Maritzburg were in action with Awal Mohammed, John Paintsil and Anas Mohammed all playing in the away victory in the league game.

A brace from Terrance Mandaza, coupled with second-half strikes from Mondli Cele and Mohammed Anas, secured a surprising result for Steve Komphela's men.

Lebogang Manyama netted for the hosts.
Mohammed's heroics means Maritzburg have jumped to third on the league table in South Africa.

Matsatsantsa dominated the early exchanges, with the home side's midfield, in particular David Mathebula, cutting the visitors' defence to pieces.

Togo international Dove Wome enjoyed a lively opening few minutes, first seeing his powerful shot superbly blocked by a Maritzburg defender before directing his shot narrowly wide of Virgil Vries's goal in the 17th minute.

The home side continued to dictate play and Sibusiso Khumalo would've felt that he should've done better with his effort in the 40th minute. A superb passage of play let in the Bafana Bafana fullback, whose heavy touch rolled harmlessly to Vries.

Despite SuperSport's early dominance it was the visitors who opened the scoring four minutes before the break. Former SuperSport man Ashley Hartog picked out Mandaza with a pin-point cross, the sturdy striker making no mistake from close range, 1-0.

SuperSport had a chance to level matters on the stroke of half-time, but were expertly denied by the Maritzburg shot stopper. Khumalo played in a superb ball to Dino Ndlovu who looked sure to score, but Vries was there to deny the Matsatsantsa striker with a wonderful save.

SuperSport found the equaliser five minutes into the second-half through Manyama. Wome laid the ball into the path of the former Ajax Cape Town man, who stepped inside before directing a powerful effort past Vries via the inside of the crossbar.

Mandaza restored the visitors' lead just before the hour-mark, heading Khumubulani Banda's cross from deep past Williams, who was rooted to the spot.

The SuperSport defence were in disarray and Maritzburg made them pay by leading 3-1 the 63rd minute.

Thirteen minutes later and it was 4-1. Cele played in Ghanaian forward Anas, who coolly found the back of the net with virtually his first touch of the game.

The win sees Maritzburg leapfrog SuperSport and into third place on the standings.

Matsatsantsa, meanwhile, slide down two places to 10th.
