Mahama Ayariga
Youth and Sports Minister, Mahama Ayariga has made a passionate appeal to chiefs in the country to be circumspect regarding the sale of lands.

The sports chief indicated that the indiscriminate sale of lands reserved for sporting activities had robbed the country of many sporting talents.

Speaking at the launch of the second edition of the Fastest Human in Accra recently, Hon Ayariga said, 'Don't sell all the lands, leave space for recreation. This is a special appeal to chiefs so young people can practice. When they practice, we identify talents and go ahead and nurture them.

'We have to create the platform for the youth of this country to demonstrate their talents. I want to also commend Standard Chartered for throwing their weight behind athletics. This is a good sign and a quick response to our request to corporate Ghana to support sports in Ghana.'

He said the government would invest and develop the few existing parks and infrastructure in an attempt to develop sports in the country.

To the Sports Minister, the Standard Chartered Bank Fastest Human module, which seeks to identify athletes at the grass-roots, is the ideal module to turn things around in athletics.
