Golf Otumfuo Commends Tullow For Supporting Golf
OCT 23, 2014 LISTEN

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II
The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has commended oil giants Tullow Oil for breathing life into golf in the country.

Tullow Oil has refurbished the turf of premier golf club, Achimota, with imported special green grass suitable to African weather and a specially designed irrigation system.

The redesigning of the $3m Course by Paul McGinley Golf Design Africa, has positioned it to an international standard.

At the grand re-opening of the course a few days ago, the Asantehene, an ardent golfer, praised Tullow Oil for the support, but appealed to them to extend the support to other golf clubs in the country in order to ease pressure on Achimota and to make the sport more popular.

The Otumfuo said there was no justification for the disproportionate sharing of the national sports budget and investment in sports which favours football to the neglect of other sporting disciplines.

Achimota Golf competition secretary and businessman Kwasi Amoafo- Yeboah was confident the facelift will position the country as a favourable destination for golf tourism.

He said plans are in place to ensure the facility was marketed and maintained to attract international competitions.

It was Eric Sowah Odoi, playing on handicap 25, who emerged the overall winner after recording 45 points to win the 18-hole competition to commemorate the reopening of the Club.

Dr Felix Frimpong claimed the prize for Nearest to the Pin, while Mary Prempeh picked the award for Longest Drive.
