Bumgarner conceded just three hits in seven innings, helping the Giants to a 7-1 win over the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium on Tuesday.

Bochy was full of praise for his star pitcher, who held the Royals scoreless until Salvador Perez's seventh-inning home run.

"[Bumgarner] was on top of his game, hitting spots, a good fast ball going, but his secondary pitches were good, too, his slider, his curve ball, change up," Bochy said.

"He really did a nice job the one inning. We made an error, but he bowed his neck and made some great pitches to get out of that. I mean, they're getting back in the game, but he kept them from scoring.

"Bum has great poise out there, and he showed it tonight. He doesn't get flustered, and he keeps coming at you."

Bochy was similarly pleased with his hitters, who set up the win with a three-run first inning.

Pablo Sandoval had an RBI double and Hunter Pence a two-run homer after Gregor Blanco had a lead-off single.

"We had good at-bats tonight," Bochy said.
"It's good to get those early runs, and we had some real nice at-bats early in the game. Blanco got us going, Buster [Posey], and Pablo hit a good pitch, and Pence.

"It's good to give your guys some early runs there, and Bum was superb."
