Italian side Verona have been handed a €50,000 fine and a one-game partial closure of their stadium following racist abuse aimed at AC Milan's Sulley Muntari.

The punishment also means that a previously suspended sentence for Verona will be handed down as they have breached the terms of the suspended sentence

The Ghana international suffered the racist abuse at the hands of Verona fans during their Serie A match played on Sunday.

AC Milan won the match 3-1 but chants of racist attack could be heard clearly directed at the Ghana star who was influential in the game for the visitors.

For the 'distinctly heard' chants aimed at the midfielder during Sunday's League game, described by the sporting authorities today as 'expressive behaviour of discrimination on the grounds of race', the Gialloblu have been punished.

It has been confirmed that the Butei will have January's suspended sentence handed down for racist abuse aimed at Napoli's Pablo Armero lifted, a €50,000 fine to pay and the Curva Sud closed for one round.

The club also picked up a €3,000 for insulting chants aimed in the direction of referee Paolo Valeri.
