Lesson Learnt: Adomah revels in Boro's mentality this season
20.10.2014 LISTEN

Ghana winger Albert Adomah believes Middlesbrough's tactics at Brighton shows that they are 'putting in a serious shift' this term.

Aitor Karanka's side soak up long spells of pressure from a silky Seagulls' side but twice hit them on the break to win 2-1.

Adomah, who was on target on Saturday afternoon, says it shows Middlesbrough have learned the painful lessons of winning games even if they are not playing so well.

"Last year we used to attack teams and have them pinned down but not score then they'd break, get one chance and win," he said.

"But it was the reverse at Brighton . When the pressure was on us we soaked it up and broke out and when we got the chances we took them."

Boro worked hard to keep Brighton at bay in what was at times a tetchy encounter but Adomah says he never worried that they would crack under pressure.

"We don't get bullied out of games now," he said.
"We are more compact now. We are more solid in our positions, that's the main thing.

"Everyone is putting in a serious shift right now, it doesn't matter what position they are on the pitch, everyone works for each other and the team.

"To win like that is pleasing. Brighton were a good team and they passed it well but we worked hard and caught them on the counter.

"It shows we can play different ways, it is not just pretty football, we can defend and battle if we have too."

The victory took Boro up to third as they go into a tough week.

"We're excited to be up there but we have to work hard to stay there," said Adomah.

"We have to take it a step by step. Wolves and Watford are big, big tests.

"They're both up there but we know that the table doesn't matter in this division. Anyone can beat anyone.

"It is about what we do. We have to have the right mentality and keep our consistency."
