OCT 20, 2014 LISTEN

The veteran QB threw four touchdowns in Denver's comprehensive 42-17 win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, taking Manning to 510 TD passes in his NFL career, two more than previous pace-setter Brett Favre.

Manning surpassed Favre's mark of 508 in the first half in Colorado, hitting Demaryius Thomas in the end zone with an eight-yard pass.

And the 38-year-old was clearly moved by the celebrations following his historic throw.

"It is quite an honor," Manning said.
"I do have great appreciation for quarterbacks who played this game throughout the years.

"It's very humbling, has taken a lot of hard work, a lot of people helped me get to this point."

Favre, who played for the Atlanta Falcons, Green Bay Packers, New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings in his 19-year career, immediately hailed Manning's achievement on Twitter.

"Well deserved Peyton. Congratulations on breaking my record. #Onto600," Favre wrote.

That also meant a lot to Manning.
"I think Brett has always known he is one of my favourite players. He played the position with so much passion, so much toughness and great production as a quarterback," the Broncos QB said.

"I am honoured to join this club with him."
The feeling is clearly mutual with Favre also congratulating Manning in a pre-recorded address that was played on the big screen at Mile High Stadium after the latter set a new record.

"I want to say congratulations for breaking the touchdown record," Favre said.

"I'm not surprised. You've been a wonderful player and I've enjoyed watching you play. I've enjoyed competing against you.

"I wish you great success for the rest of the season and the rest of your career."

Manning has thrown 111 touchdowns during his two-and-a-bit seasons with Denver, while he managed another 399 in 13 years with the Indianapolis Colts.
