Keselowski snuck into the top eight in the overall standings on Sunday, eliminating the likes of reigning champion Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr and Kyle Busch, while Matt Kenseth finished second to also jump up the standings into fifth.

In a dramatic finale, Keselowski recovered from a pit-stop penalty that saw him sent to the back of the field, powering his way past all opponents to claim his sixth victory of the season.

Kenseth finished second, while Clint Bowyer claimed the final spot on the podium at Talladega Superspeedway.

The win saw Keselowski - the 2012 NASCAR champion - jump two spots in the overall standings to claim the eighth and final spot in the eliminator rounds.

Busch, who had claimed two pole positions in the Chase but failed to turn either into a win, crashed out on Sunday to drop seven spots to ninth, forcing his elimination, while Johnson finished 24th in Alabama to remain 11th.

Joey Logano, who claimed 11th position at Talladega, leads the overall standings with Kevin Harvick and Ryan Newman completing the top three.

The other three drivers to advance are Denny Hamlin (fourth overall), Carl Edwards (sixth) and Jeff Gordon (seventh).

The three-race eliminator round begins with the Goody's Headache Relief Shot 500 in Ridgeway on Sunday.
