The defending champions saw an early lead quickly wiped out by their opponents on Sunday, but they scored 26 points in the closing period of the match to win 90-88.

Madrid needed vital contributions from Gustavo Ayon and Kelvin Rivers to keep them in game, and with time running out Joventut looked on course for a big win.

However, in a tense final 15 minutes Madrid eventually edged ahead to maintain their perfect start to the season.

Barcelona, Bilbao and Unicaja have also won their three matches of the new season thanks to victories on Sunday.

Justin Doellman, Brad Oleson and Ante Tomic inspired Barcelona to a 80-61 victory over Herbalife Gran Canaria, scoring 34 points between them in the match.

For the visitors it was a second loss of the campaign, with Eulis Baez's 14 points unable to help his side.

Bilbao inflicted a first defeat of the season on UCAM Murcia despite a final-quarter resurgence from the visitors.

Having dominated the first three quarters Bilbao found themselves on the back foot and, although Murcia outscored them in the final 15 minutes, they hung on to win 82-74.

Meanwhile, Unicaja may have been behind after the first quarter against La Bruixa d'Or but they came surging back into the game, outscoring their opponents in the following two periods to set up a 81-65 win.

Valencia hold the final play-off place thanks to their 77-69 win over CAI Zaragoza, while Iberostar Tenerife are right on their tails after beating Tuenti Movil Estudiantes 79-66.

At the bottom, Laboral Kutxa, Sevilla, Gipuzkoa are all without a win from their opening three games, like La Bruixa d'Or.

Laboral made a slow start to their match with MoraBanc Andorra and found themselves 13 points behind at the half-way stage.

Despite a comeback in the final two quarters Laboral came up just short, losing 87-85.

Fellow strugglers Gipuzkoa were never really in contention against Rio Natura Monbus, though, and slumped to an 85-69 defeat.

Sevilla put up a good fight against Montakit Fuenlabrada but that first win continues to elude them as the visitors recorded a 71-68 victory.
