I'm A Muslim Nyantakyi Tells Commission
02.10.2014 LISTEN

Kwesi Nyantakyi swearing by the Holy Quran.
Drama unfolded at the Justice Dzamefe Com-mission sitting yesterday over the religious affiliation of GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi.

When he appeared on Tuesday and was asked to choose the option of swearing by the Holy Bible, the Cross or the Holy Quran, Mr Nyantakyi swore by the latter (Holy Quran).

This raised the eye-brow of the Commission's chairman who questioned the FA president's religious belief when sitting resumed yesterday.

Mr Nyantakyi took offence at the question and the request to be sworn again, compelling his counsel Thaddeus Sory to question the legal status of the previous day's testimony by the witness.

For more than five minutes there were angry exchanges between Mr Nyantakyi and his lawyer on one side and the Commission members on the other.

When the matter got to a head, counsel for the GFA president confirmed his client's religious faith thus: 'It is obvious that by swearing on the Quran, he is a Muslim.'

At this juncture, Moses Foh-Amoaning, a member of the Commission, demanded that Mr Nyantakyi withdraw an unsavoury comment he passed which impugned the integrity of the com-mission, resulting in another round of exchanges.

Like always, it took the skill and tact of Justice Senyo Dzamefe, chairman of the Commission, to restore calm.

Later however, the GFA boss withdrew the comment, saying he was doing so out of respect for his 'senior at the bar' Mr Foh-Amoaning.

It was later gathered that Mr Nyantakyi has been a Muslim since he

was nine, and has been active in all practices and conventions of Islam including observing the Ramadan fast.
