Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi believes the Black Stars were 'unreasonable' in their demand for a $100,000 payment as appearance fee for the 2014 World Cup.

The state had agreed at the cabinet level to pay each player $82,500 who made it to Ghana's final 23-man squad for the tournament staged in Brazil.

The amount represented a 10 percent increment on what was paid at the last World Cup four-years ago in South Africa.

The Black Stars players however rejected this offer – insisting they be paid $100,000 despite several attempts to convince them to take the $82,500 offered by the state.

Each Black Stars players eventually received $100,000 after several discussions which is believed to have played a role in Ghana's first round exit at the 2014 World Cup.

But GFA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi in giving evidence before the 2014 World Cup Commission says the demands of the players were 'unreasonable'.

“In the circumstance, we were very frustrated and at that time I thought the players were being unreasonable,” Nyantakyi said.

“When we met the players in Holland – by that time the budget had already been approved – to announce to them the remuneration package, the players rejected the $82,500 offer.

“The Minister then explained to the players that this was a decision by cabinet and that he couldn't change it.”
