Ex-Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah, who led the Black Stars at the 2014 World Cup, was not present on Tuesday when the CAF Conference for National Coaches and Technical Directors opened in Cairo to discuss the new coaching trends that emerged at the tournament in Brazil.

His absence is a huge blow for coaching for the Black Stars as it is a missed opportunity to learn from other tactics from other team to help the national team's coaching strategy for the future.

According to a GNA report, Appiah was among some of the scheduled key speakers at the conference being held at the CAF headquarters but he was not in attendance.

He was to discuss the tactics he used to outwit world champions Germany at the 2014 World Cup but it looks like his parting ways with the Ghana Football Association resulted in his absence.

Appiah was supposed to attend the event along with Ghana's Technical Director Francis Oti Akenteng but it looks like since severing his relationship with the Ghana Football Association he was unable to attend on behalf of the country.

Oti Akenteng attended the event alone but the chance to impart the new trends in the Black Stars could be missed by the in-coming coach of the Black Stars.

Head Coaches and the Technical Directors of National Associations affiliated to CAF have gathered in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, for the FIFA/CAF Conference for National Coaches and Technical Directors – 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.

The conference organized by FIFA in partnership with CAF, and scheduled from Tuesday, 30 September to Wednesday, 1 October 2014 seeks to discuss the technical and tactical analysis of the competition that witnessed five African representatives namely; Algeria, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana and Nigeria.

The two-day gathering which opened on Tuesday also provides a platform for the exchange of ideas and sharing of experiences amongst participants geared towards the development of the African game to an appreciable level.

Participants will also be taken through topics such as the Trends in modern football and its impact for coaching and training as well as medical matters at the World Cup and beyond.

Instructors include Jean-Paul Brigger – FIFA Technical Director, Abdel Moneim Hussein – CAF Technical Director, Massimo Busacca – FIFA Head of Refereeing amongst others.

This is the fourth time the conference is being organized after the 2002, 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups.
