Ex-Ghana captain CK Akonnor says players of the Black Stars must render an unqualified apology to the President of the country John Mahama for reportedly snubbing his plea for them not to boycott training at the World Cup over unpaid appearance fees at the World Cup.

Akonnor, who took over from Abedi Pele as the captain of the Black Stars, was giving evidence at the 2014 World Cup Commission in Accra on Monday over what wrecked Ghana's campaign at the tournament in Brazil.

Rumours are rife that players ignored pleas by the country's leader when they threatened to boycott training two days before the Black Stars played Portugal in their final group match.

Despite the appeal from the country's president, the players were reported to have gone ahead with their threat to boycott the training which heightened tension at the tournament in Brazil.

Akonnor says if the reports are true that the players boycotted the training despite the plea from President Mahama, they must render an unqualified apology.

“If the president speaks, that is final,” Akunnor told the commission in his submission on Monday.

“I remember during my time as a national team coach, I met with the late president professor Mills and after he spoke, it was off”,

“So when I heard that the president stepped in and spoke to the players but they ignored, I was suprised”.

“I think they must apologise to the president if the reports were true,” Akkonor added.

Sacked Sports Minister Elvis Afriyie Ankrah and several other alluded to some of these allegations in several interviews.
