Everton manager Roberto Martinez was forced to leave out Ghana winger Christian Atsu from his side as Chelsea demolished them 6-3 in the English Premier League in Saturday's late kick-off.

Everton could not field the 2014 Ghana World Cup star due to a contract clause Chelsea had with Everton on his loan move.

Atsu could have come up against the Blues just over three weeks after leaving them to sign for Everton on loan but had to watch the game from the stands.

The West London giants made a short trip to the Merseyside to face Everton at the Goodison Park and showed their superior form by scoring twice in the opening five minutes of the game.

Spanish forward Diego Costa and Branislav Ivanovic put Chelsea 2-0 ahead before Seamus Coleman also added the third after the Toffees had pulled a goal back.

Nemanja Matic and Ramirez increased the tally before Costa registered his first brace of the Premier League. Samuel Eto'o came off the bench to score in the last moments of the game.

Atsu is expected to fly to Accra to join the Ghana squad for the upcoming 2015 AFCON qualifying double-header against Uganda and Togo.
