Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan visited and helped in the performance of a circumcision upon his arrival in Blantyre as part of his humanitarian work with UNAIDS.

The Black Stars striker is in Malawi as part of the international body's HIV/AIDS awareness campaign – Protecting the Goal.

Circumcision is considered a vital feature towards reducing the risk of infection of sexually transmitted diseases including HIV/AIDS.

A lot of African countries especially Malawi have issues against circumcision of the male child due to cultural norms and convention.

And since it is considered a vital component by UNAIDS towards reducing the risk of infection of HIV/AIDS, the Al Ain ace was implored to visit a circumcision center as part of their Protect the Goal campaign.

Gyan witnessed and partook in a circumcision operation after which he interacted and educated the locals over its benefits.

The 28-year-old was accompanied by official from UNAIDS, the Ghana AIDS Commission and business manager and spokesperson Samuel Anim Addo.

Gyan will later on Thursday evening attend an event which had Malawi President Peter Mutharika in attendance.
