Asamoah Gyan was given a surprise reception in Lusaka on Wednesday afternoon where he made a brief stop on his way to Malawi.

The Black Stars captain was mobbed by fans upon his entry to the Kenneth Kaunda Airport in the Zambian capital where he was received by officials from the Zambian FA and representatives of UNAIDS.

The 28-year-old left his base in the UAE immediately after Al Ain's return from their heroic qualification to the semi finals of the AFC Asian Champions League against Al Ittihad on Tuesday night.

Gyan is expected in Malawi to continue with the UNAIDS awareness campaign against HIV/AIDS – Protect the Goal.

The Ghana striker however made a quick stop in Zambia where he was treated to a rapturous reception.

The ex Sunderland hitman signed autographs and took pictures with some of the fans gathered at the airport.

The Ghana international is now in the Malawian capital in Lilongwe but will soon make the trip to Blantyre where he is to attend a ceremony with the country's President Peter Mutharika on Thursday.

Gyan is accompanied by the his spokesman and business manager Samuel Anim Addo alongside Steve Bed and Dr. Angela El-Adas from the Ghana Aids Commission.
