It's Alan's Turn, Let's Give Him A Chance!

Feature Article It's Alan's Turn, Let's Give Him A Chance!
AUG 25, 2014 LISTEN

In less than one week, the NPP will hold its Special Delegates' Conference to select five out of the seven flag-bearer aspirants for the Party's Congress. My preferred candidate is Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, the face of the future.

The affable, pleasant and easy-going Alan Kyerematen, 58 years is the NPP's best hope for winning victory over the NDC in 2016.

In my opinion, Alan is the best candidate and I urge all the delegates to vote for him on 31st August, 2014 for the following reasons:

· He is a visionary leader, a great manager with exemplary character who is also a good team player.

· He is the best man who will be able to tackle poverty in our beloved nation. Alan will be the voice for the people. He is a caring advocate with a proven track record of success. He will encourage young people to till the land and motivate them in rural and urban areas. He has demonstrated this by working closely with the grassroots.

· Alan's popularity spans across the length and breadth of our great nation. He is loved by floating voters and members of the opposing groups.

· He is humble, articulate, and kind to all. He will attract the floating voters.

· He has an endless list of achievements within the Party and for the Nation such as funding the 1st NPP National Headquarters in Accra, and the Ayensu Starch Factory currently being operated by Guinness Ghana Brewery Limited.

· Alan will deal effectively with corruption. We all understand that one of the underlying reasons for open corruption is poverty. Alan will endeavour to reduce bribery and corruption by reducing poverty. He has promised to provide jobs for the youth and teach them skills to improve their circumstances.

· Alan acts as a bridge between the young and the aged. He is dynamic and energetic. He has criss-crossed the whole nation during NPP's campaigns and has demonstrated his enthusiasm, dedication and commitment to the party's cause.

· Alan is a great organiser and an action man, not just a talker.

· He organised the youth during the 2008 general election and was one of the leaders in our party who risked his own life during the campaign when his team was attacked and injured. Only the quick thinking of his chauffeur saved his life. He supported the 2012 elections financially and materially.

· Alan has the capacity to bring peace, unity and revival into the Party. He stepped down for Nana Addo in 2007. Many members have been despondent since we lost the elections in December 2008, and 2012. He is a peace maker, pacifier and problem solver. No problem is too small or too large for him. He always has a listening ear for all and is willing to negotiate a compromise for the good of the party at all times.

The fact that two people, even two brothers or sisters, may belong to different ideological persuasions or different factions within the same party political party and therefore may differ in opinions, does in no way mean that they are enemies. Not at all! Alan will be able to unite the whole nation regardless of political orientation, religious orientation, class, tribe or gender.

· Not only should we tolerate one another, we are commanded by God to love one another and respect one another's views, no matter how divergent. It is also our firm hope and prayer that after the elections, no persons, delegates, foot soldiers, communities or individuals will be victimised for having expressed a vote not in favour of the candidate that may have won the flag-bearership contest. He has not asked his supporters to say; No Alan, No Vote". Never.

· Alan has long-term vision for the party. He is a strategist. He has proposed a plan to pay a monthly salary of party executives, who would work full-time for the party.

· Alan is a politician who deserves your vote. He has demonstrated over the years that he has relevant experience for the leadership role. At age 22, he became the Manager of UAC Ghana Ltd, a subsidiary of Unilever International. He was AU's Trade Envoy; UNDP's Chief Executive, Enterprise Africa; Founder of EMPRETEC; UN's Economic Commission for Africa expert; Chairman of Young Executive Forum (YEF); Ambassador to the US; Minister of Trade, Industry, and PSI; Founder of John Young & Associates; Immediate past trade advisor for the AU. Just last year, Alan was chosen by the AU for the position of the Director General of World Trade Organisation (WTO).

· Alan will be able to improve the health and education of our nation. He has the means, talent and ability to tackle environmental conditions such as poor water quality and sanitation, inadequate nutrition, housing, the prevalence of specific diseases and distress of heavy manual labour.

· He has vowed to create jobs for all, in particular women and children. Alan is a devoted family man with a wife and two (2) children.

· He has the interests of Ghanaians in the Diaspora at heart and cares for the issues that concern them most .He will fight for their struggle to extend voting rights to them in the Diaspora and also grant them full citizenship rights as Ghanaians.

· A Vote for Alan is a vote for victory, hope, prosperity and vote for the future.

Some have had more than one chance without success, whilst others have none. This is Alan's time. Let's do him a favour.
