With concern rising among citizen of the Volta region towards the delay of the construction of the multipurpose complex promise by the ruling government, Deputy Volta Regional Minister Francis Ganyaglo has assured the people of the Volta region that work will soon commence on the Modern Sports Complex promised in the region. He revealed that a new 100 acre land has been identified along the Ho–Adaklu Corridor road for the project.

Mr. Ganyaglo who is also the chairman of the 12 member committee set to work towards the construction of a modern sports complex made this known when Gbc/Volta Star Radio Sports desk visited him to enquire about the activities of the committee since it inauguration. He further said that work has began in earnest as the committee paid a working visit to the Cape coast and Essipong stadium to get enlighten on how to put things in order towards the project. Explaining why the project has delayed and the rationale for the change of the site, Mr. Ganyaglo said the decision to relocate the site was necessitated after the 12 member committee set to acquire a suitable land, document it and supervise the project noticed a massive encroachment on the land.

He stated it has also become difficult to situate the stadium there as it is very close to the propose land on which the regional Airport is to be built. “Yes a parcel of land has been acquired in the past but as a committee we visited the land and have notice a massive encroachment on it.

And as a very sensitive government, we could just not go ahead and demolish people's building or asking them to relocate. Another reason is the proximity of the propose land to the site for the construction of the regional Airport. Expects say it is very inappropriate to have a stadium within 2km Radius to an Airport so we have to look elsewhere. These are the major reasons that delayed the project” he said.

He also disclose that the committee has tasked the lands commission and the survey department to do an assessment of the new land for its final acquisition for the project to begin but caution that it's a gradual process and is unable to give a time frame to the commencement of the project but assured the people of government's commitment towards the project and the renovation of the existing Ho and Kpando sport stadium to a befitting status.

A 12 member committee chaired by the deputy Volta Regional Minister was inaugurated in March this year by the immediate past Volta regional minister Nii Laryea Afortey Agbo, to identify a suitable land for a modern sport complex, acquire a proper documentation for the land and oversee the completion of the Ho sports complex Project. The current Ho sports stadium has not seen any form of renovation since it was built in 1957 rising concerns to the delay of the project.
