Pauline Bremer and Rebecca Knack goals were enough to picture tears crestfallen players and the over 22,421 partisan supporters gathered at the Edmonton Stadium to watch the Young Canucks beaten 2-0 by favourite Germany in the second quarter final match of the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup on Saturday.

Canada competed valiantly to the admiration of the home crowd who kept cheering and chanting until the 24th minute when Pauline Bremer's scintillating goal changed the atmosphere in the stadium.

Bremer was put through by the unselfish Lena Petermann with a flick. The striker showed skill, intelligence and sheer confidence as she double beat Canadian goalie, Kailen Sheridan before putting the ball in the twine.

The Young Canucks came close in the 67th minute but Meike Kamper came off her line quickly to deny Fletcher.

However, the German's doubled their advantage in the 82nd minute through Rebecca Knaak when she headed home from Sara Dabritz's inviting in-swinger.

Germany looked quite above the host but midfielder Emma Fletcher thinks the Young Canucks exhibited what they are made of are going to go far in future tournaments.

"This tournament has been awesome. It's been a crazy, amazing experience and I'm sure any young girls watching it will have been inspired. I think we've also shown that there are some great players coming through in Canada, and next year we're going to do something special," she said.
