The 14-time major champion's participation in the final major of the year had been in doubt after he withdrew from the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational on Sunday.

Back surgery earlier in the year has seen Woods play just three tournaments since the start of April.

But, after practising at the Valhalla Golf Club on Wednesday, Woods said he was fit and ready to compete at the Valhalla Golf Club.

The American revealed that he needed the sacrum bone in his back put back into place, but will not allow his latest setback to prevent him from teeing off in Kentucky on Thursday.

"My physio is here so if it goes out he is able to fix it," Woods told a news conference.

"It was a different pain, I knew it was not the site of the surgery. This is something totally different.

"I still need to build up strength and it's going to take more time.

"The treatment has been fantastic, once the bone was put back in the spasms went away and from there I started to get some range of motion."

Woods will take anti-inflammatories during the tournament, which he believes he can win.
