The American moved to 26 points through two rounds of the modified-Stableford scoring event on the PGA Tour in Ohio.

Starting on the back nine at the Montreux Golf and Country Club, Watney mixed two bogeys with as many birdies to post two points heading to the turn.

A bogey-free back nine that included three birdies bolstered Watney's scorecard, ensuring he heads to the weekend with a handy lead.

Australia's Geoff Ogilvy (23) leads the chasing pack, after picking up seven points in his second round.

Through 12 holes, Ogilvy had only gained one point on his strong opening round that generated 16, however an eagle on the par-five 13th gave him a five-point boost.

Also in contention is Wes Roach (22), who sits third ahead of fellow American Tommy Gainey and New Zealand's Tim Wilkinson (both 21) in a tie for fourth.

American Jeff Overton eagled the 18th to head into the weekend on 20 points, and in a tie of sixth spot.

Level with Overton are countrymen Bryce Molder and Brendan Steele.

A point further back are John Huh and Woody Austin, the American pair adding seven and eight points to their overall totals respectively.
