The nine-time NBA All-Star was linked with a four-year, US$88m switch to the Houston Rockets, but the Heat upped their offer to Bosh after the loss of LeBron James to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Bosh had opted out of his former deal with the American Airlines Arena franchise, but decided against a move away.

Heat president Pat Riley hailed 30-year-old Bosh, who has been with Miami since 2010.

"Chris Bosh is a two-time NBA champion and one of the most versatile big men in the league," Riley said in a statement.

"His unique skillset makes him one of the best players in the game today. I've always felt he was committed to this organization, this staff and this city.

"I think he's going to have the opportunity of a lifetime leading this team next season and having the nine-time NBA All-Star back in the fold was a big key for us. We are very blessed to have him."

Bosh began his career at the Toronto Raptors in 2003, and in his 11-year career he has amassed 796 NBA appearances, averaging 19.2 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.
