England are on the cusp of levelling the five-Test series after declaring at 205-4 and reducing India to 112-4 at stumps on day four at the Ageas Bowl on Wednesday.

Ajinkya Rahane (18) and Rohit Sharma (six) ended the day unbeaten with India requiring another 333 runs for victory.

Dhawan, who was dismissed for 37, is under no illusions as to the task facing his team-mates.

"It's going to be a bit hard, so we're going to look forward to build up a big partnership," Dhawan told reporters.

"Of course England are in a good position at the moment.

"We're going to do our best to build up a big partnership and spend time in the middle."

Dhawan added: "I feel the wicket has got turn on it and it's seaming a little bit because of the rough patches.

"It's not easy to bat out there and you cannot predict what's going to happen.

"Some balls from the same area are skipping straight and sometimes it's turning. When you get turn on a good ball, then you can't do much about it."
