Hamilton was asked to allow the German past him at the Hungaroring but refused on his way to finishing third, a spot ahead of Rosberg, on Sunday.

The British 2008 Formula One world champion intends to speak to team bosses Paddy Lowe and Toto Wolff about communications.

"I don't think I was being ruthless," Hamilton said.

"I was not even being bloody-minded. I was doing my job.

"It is not about questioning authority. I am hired to race and bring in points for the team.

"I am also hired to be me and race my heart out. I have already given away way too much this season.

"I have no doubt the team call was for the right reasons. They want to get the most points and I guess at that point they thought Nico could get more points maybe.

"I will sit down with Paddy. I have known him for a long time and we have a great relationship. As Toto said, we might have to look at things to see if we can improve communications."

Hamilton said he would expect Rosberg, who leads the championship by 11 points from his team-mate, not to let him past in the same situation.

He denied costing Rosberg a victory and said Mercedes should allow them to race when it was for position.

"If I was in 10th and I could hinder Nico getting points for the team that's a position I'd never want to be in," Hamilton said.

"But it is a different thing when we are racing each other for position."
