Former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer had agreed a deal to purchase the LA franchise from Sterling's wife Shelly for $2billion, after the NBA declared Sterling must sell his stake after being shamed by published audio of him making racist remarks.

Judge Michael Levanas declared Shelly Sterling had the right to agree a sale with Ballmer, and she was relieved her husband's legal challenge had ended.

"I can't believe it's over. I feel good," Shelly Sterling said.

Unsurprisingly, the NBA revealed their pleasure at Judge Levanas' decision.

"We are pleased that the court has affirmed Shelly Sterling's right to sell the Los Angeles Clippers to Steve Ballmer. We look forward to the transaction closing as soon as possible," read a statement issued by Mike Bass, the NBA's executive vice-president, communications.

Ballmer has already set an August 15 deadline for the impending sale.
