Read full interview below:
Kevin-Prince Boateng, you have just had a few days of training after your holidays. How are you feeling after the break?

I'm well rested and ready for action. The trip to the World Cup did me good, I needed the free days to shut down after the long season. Now my batteries are recharged. I'm happy that I'm back at Schalke and that pre-season is underway.

How much are you looking forward to the upcoming season?

I can't wait! I was already looking forward to seeing the lads again whilst on my holidays. We have a great bunch here, some superb additions, just a strong team altogether. We work hard in training and are focused but we also have the necessary amount of fun in the training sessions.

You came home from the World Cup in Brazil earlier than planned…

That matter is done and dusted. All my concentration is at the moment is on FC Schalke 04. I cannot say at the moment whether or not I will play for Ghana again. The current national team manager said that he doesn't plan to include me any longer. We'll see what the future holds. Should the Ghanian Football Association wish me to play for the national team again, then I will discuss with them accordingly. But as I said: All that counts now is Schalke.

You previously stated that you would like to play in a more attacking role with Schalke. What is your favourite position?

Let me say this: The manager is the only person who decides who plays where. But I make it no secret that I like to play behind the strikers the most. If Jens Keller wants me to play in the number six role, then of course I won't say: 'No gaffer, I don't want to.'

How do you see the competition for places within Schalke?

We have a lot of quality in the squad, which is a good thing. So we'll push one another, no one can or should take it easy during training. Rather each and every player wants to give a good account of themselves so that they make the starting XI. There's no guarantee that you will start, we face new challenges every day. That can only aid success.

What goals have you set together with the team for the upcoming season?

My first goal is to win the DFB-Pokal game in Dresden. Even if it sounds a little boring, it won't be that easy. It's always important to kick off competitive football with a win. And then finally we want to give ourselves a good start in the Bundesliga. I don't want to look too far into the future. We should concentrate on coming out of the starting blocks well.
