Akakpo is set to leave Berekum Chelsea after a short stay in the Ghana premier league. The Port Said-based side seeks to add quality to their defense hence opting for the versatile center back.

Known for his hard tackling and composure at the heart of defense for Berekum during their Caf champions' league this season was the catalyst for the acquisition.

A statement on Al Masry website read 'As part of its continuing attempts to strengthen the squad, the Board of Directors decided to build a strong team that can compete to win laurels thereby leading Mr. Yasser Yahya chairman of the Egyptian club's to contract Ghanaian defender Akakpo Wilson of Berekum Chelsea.

The term of the contract with the player expire at the end of season 2017/2016 and is worth mentioning that the player at the age of 22 and can play in several positions in the line of defense and the midfield. Mr Yasser Yahia quickly signed him especially as the center of defense need to strengthen.' Akakpo pens a three year contract and will partner Islam Salah after the club has dispensed the services of Hisham Abdel Raouf and Nigerian Okora Akitchoko at the end of last season.

The 22-year played two seasons for Berekum Chelsea in the Ghana Premier League from Ho Hot Steel FC. He is the first player to be sold by the local club who are in need of cash after bank roller Emmanuel Kyeremeh who relocated to Canada.
