Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa has welcomed competition from Ghana shot-stopper Fatau Dauda.

Meyiwa, who was preferred to the sturdy Ghanaian throughout the whole of last season, believes competing for the number one jersey against the 29-year-old has made him a better player.

Dauda played twice for the Black Stars at the 2014 World Cup and Meyiwa insists he wished his compatriot well before he jetted off to Brazil.

“For him [Fatau Dauda] it was a great opportunity to go and play in the World Cup , it is a great competition for him and every player that plays in it,” Meyiwa said ahead of the Carling Black Label Cup on Saturday.

“I wished him before he left, all the best, competition is always there. To become the best you need competition, you can't expect to be alone, so for me having someone like him is a good thing.

“Competition is nothing new, you have to take it as a man,” the Bafana Bafana glovesman added.
