Sports News 2018 and 2022 bids corruption: Garcias FIFA probe set for September completion
JUL 22, 2014 LISTEN

The completion of an investigation by former US attorney Michael Garcia into allegations of corruption surrounding the controversial bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups has been delayed by several weeks, according to football's global governing body.

The internal probe by FIFA's ethics committee was supposed to be completed this month, but the governing body has said that it now expects the report to be delivered 'to the adjudicatory chamber by the first week of September 2014.'

Garcia, who began his investigation 18 months ago, will submit his report to German judge Hans-Joachim Eckert, the head of the ethics committee's adjudicatory chamber. The delay in proceedings means Eckert is unlikely to make any rulings until late September or October.

Russia was awarded the 2018 World Cup while Qatar was given the hosting rights for the 2022 edition of the tournament.
