The Australian, 19, made the most of his wildcard into the main draw at SW19, downing world number one Rafael Nadal on centre court to reach the last eight where he lost to Milos Raonic.

Kyrgios, whose run saw him rise to number 66 in the world rankings, was reported to be preparing to cut ties with New Zealander Rea as he played his way into the second week at the grass-court major.

And the Canberra native confirmed the split, with former pro Josh Eagle appointed as his travelling coach.

"My desire to be at home more in Canberra, when I am not at tournaments has driven me to make the decision for change within my team," a statement on Kyrgios' website read.

"This decision is something I have made myself and was decided and conversed to everyone prior to the French Open and in light of my recent success it is obviously not a decision I have taken lightly.

"My deepest thanks go to Simon Rea who has been nothing but a steady, calm and positive influence on me. My time with Simon was an incredibly special time for us both and I learned and achieved a lot thanks to Simon and I will be forever grateful for his input and drive to improve my game.

"We both knew going in to Wimbledon that it would be our last event working together and in some ways, to sign off with a quarter-final appearance was a special reward and a fitting end. Not only is Simon a great coach but he is a great person and I wish him all the best in the next phase of his coaching career."

Eagle, 41, is a former doubles specialist, with his best singles ranking of 219th achieved in 1994.

The Queenslander was a three-time major quarter-finalist in the doubles format.

Kyrgios will next appear on tour at the Rogers Cup - an ATP 1000 event - in Toronto in August.
