U-turn: Cambridge United resign Kwesi Appiah
10.07.2014 LISTEN

Cambridge United have re-signed Crystal Palace striker Kwesi Appiah on loan for six months.

The 23-year-old spent part of last season at the Abbey Stadium where he scored 10 goals in 17 games in the early part of the season to help set the foundations for the U's play-off success against Gateshead in May.

He however struggled to make an impact at Selhurst Park since joining the Eagles in 2012; making only ten appearances since.

Appiah also had loan spells with Notts County and AFC Wimbledon, and has made appearances for fourteen different clubs since starting his career at Ebbsfleet United in 2008.

In January, the striker signed a new contract in SE25 which will see him remain at the club until June 2015, with Palace having an option to extend the deal by another two years.

After completing his move, Appiah said:
'Obviously I was here before and had a good connection with everyone. It was great to see the team win at Wembley in the FA Trophy and then be here at the Abbey for the play-off semi-final.

Hopefully the fans will see some more goals from me this season and hope as a team we can give them something to cheer about!'

Meanwhile, Cambridge Director of Football Jez George revealed that there was plenty of competition for the striker's signature.

'We had to move really quickly to make this happen and despite a lot of competition for his signature from other clubs, we are delighted to have signed him until January'
