Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah will name Isaac Vorsah in his provisional squad for the 2014 World Cup even though the defender has not played competitive football for close to a year, GHANAsoccernet.com has been told by a reliable source.

The 25-year-old has been battling a serious knee injury he picked up last May while in action for his Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg.

Vorsah is yet to play a competitive match for both club and country since his injury but features very prominently in the thoughts of Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah with the 2014 World Cup barely two months away.

Red Bull Salzburg officials have assured of Vorsah's fitness when Black Stars assistant coach Maxwell Konadu visited the player earlier this month.

The club claim they are unwilling to risk the Ghana defender to anymore injuries as the reason for not giving him games as expected.

But coach Kwesi Appiah has decided to give his dependable defender a shot at making the final 23-man squad for the World Cup if he is able to prove his fitness in the provisional squad to be named by May 13.

“Isaac Vorsah will be named in the provisional squad for the World Cup but the coach will take a final decision on him at the depth,” a source told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“The coach wants to give him [Vorsah] as much time as possible to prove himself worthy of a place in the final squad.

“So even though he will be named in the provisional squad, his place in the final 23 is not certain.”

Coach Kwesi Appiah however faces a dilemna as he is desperate to avoid any controversies with the call up of players deemed not fit enough to make the squad for the World Cup.

Vorsah has been an integral part of Ghana's squad since making his debut in 2007.

He however missed the crucial parts of Ghana's successful qualifying campaign due to the serious knee injury he sustained in May last year.
