Two board members of Asante Kotoko; Samuel Osei Kuffour and Alhaji Lamine contributed to pay the signing on fee of Ghana midfielder Rahim Ayew.

The 25-year-old is reported to have pocketed GHS 20,000 ($10,000) after signing a one-year contract with the champions.

It has now emerged that the signing on fee for the ex Zamalek midfielder was finances by the two board members as the club continue to struggle with funds.

Sammy Kuffour and Alhaji Lamine paid 50 percent apiece of the total signing on fee of Ayew according to Metro FM.

The two board members had to delve into their personal pockets in order for the club to seal the deal with the son of Ghana legend Abedi Pele.

It is however unclear at this point whether the payment was made as a loan to the club – payable as and when the club is able to make some money.

Individual pre-financing have become a norm at Kotoko due to their inferior financial state despite being the club with most sponsors in Ghana.

Other board members and ardent supporters of the club have had to make similar financial interventions to keep the side still afloat financially to be able to compete on all fronts.
