Ghana's Vincent Torgah looks forward to defending his Moanda Open Championship title despite likely heavy favorites at the upcoming Championship in Gabon.
Vincent enters the Gabon competition in March with a truckload of good vibrations after remarkable victories on the African scene that included the first leg of the Glo Golf Tour in Asaba, Nigeria.
Having won the 17th Moanda Open Championship on a total score of 290, there would sure be a substantial amount of attention on him as he tries to defend the title among other tough favorites Such as Gift Willy (Nigeria), Desire Edela (Comeroun), Brice Moukani (Gabon) and Beranger Cyrille also of Gabon.
The Gabon event in March is expected to draw a solid field that includes new and ambitious entrants; a fact Vincent full recognizes. “Yes, good and ambitious players are coming over; the event will attract new entrants from South Africa, as well as Kenya; the competition is likely to be very keen.” he admitted.
However, when it's all clicking, there is nobody who rides a hot streak like Vincent Torgah. He can drive balls with great consistency and work the greens with amazing accuracy, but when playing from the fairway, dangerously awful things can happen.
“My short game by far remains my terrible headache, he confided, adding, “I am working steadily to correct it and hopefully I should be able to break and defend my own title at Gabon.”
Despite bagging a total of three victories in his 2012 Nigeria campaign that fetched him a total of N9.5m, Vincent couldn't find same rhythm in Ghana. He trailed behind Emos Korblah in three major campaigns; Tema Open, Accra Open and the ultimate Ghana Open. The up-the-slope-over-the-fringe-down-the-slope kind of golf chase denied the Tema based golfer feel-good moments that he seeks to normalize towards his epic golf hunt.
“2012 was the year of disappointment for me”, he noted, adding, “my finishing on major tournaments was not very impressive, actually I was aiming higher to win most of the major tournaments in Ghana but along the way some difficulties came along.” He told The Golfer newspaper.
Impending events in Gabon and Nigeria where Vincent seeks to seize the moment of glory once more will sure set up a thrilling experience for Vincent at the British Open and Eco Tour qualifiers later in the year. The British Open remains one of golf's biggest attractions and Vincent's previous attempts at securing a place in the Open is yet to see the light of day.
He is however confident the year 2013 will turn out in great style. “My best is yet to come,” he stated, saying, “I am seeking assistance on how to improve my short games and am excited at the amazing supports from my Manager, Kojo Choi.
As he rallies on in golf's ever roller coaster, Vincent would just need to hang on and stay confident.

Congrats to Vincent, it is good he has identified his flaws and making efforts to correct it. Bravo to his manager, Kojo who I believe understands the game and helping the young chap alot.
