Minister urge on Maidens ahead of Japan clash

Accra, Oct. 3, GNA – Clement Kofi Humado, Minister of Youth and Sports has urged the Black Maidens to go all out in Friday's quarter final encounter at the ongoing FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Azerbaijan.

The Minister in a statement copied to GNA Sports also congratulated the Maidens on their historic feat, being the first ever female national team to reach the knockout stage of a global championship.

“I commend the Maidens for ther spirited performance they put up to qualify to the quarter finals stage of the tournament from their tough Group 'D' which included reputed and strong women's football nations such as Germany and China.

“I must admit that I am very proud of these 'twinkle twinkle little stars' for their courage and commitment to fly high the flag of Ghana at the ongoing tournament. I am confident they will go pass Japan on Friday and progress to the semi final.”

He also commended the technical and management teams for their efforts in the Maidens' campaign at the tournament underway in Azerbaijan.

The Maidens beat China 2-0 last Sunday to seal their place at the knockout stage of the competition where they are due to face Japan on Friday, October 5, 2012.
